#2. Deploy CentOS 8 or Choose From Our Vast Library
The world of operating systems is always changing - patches, new versions, and new concepts! With Vultr's frequently updated library of operating systems, you can always be sure you have access to a wide range of OS images that can be deployed anywhere on our worldwide platform in seconds.
Just last week, CentOS 8 was the latest image to be added to our OS library. The RHEL-compatible open source offering comes packed with new features and an updated kernel. Notable updates include a new package manager, new software repositories, updates to system applications, databases, programming languages, and much more. This Linux distro is also well known for its 10 year long-term support.
In addition, new updates are planned for other distros in the coming weeks. Notable future releases include Ubuntu 19.10, Fedora 31, OpenBSD 6.6, and FreeBSD 12.1. The Vultr team will add these images to our library shortly after the stable versions are offered to the public.
Besides CentOS, our full operating system library offers multiple versions of Ubuntu, Fedora, Debian, OpenBSD, FreeBSD, and Windows. Our diverse list of operating systems provides flexibility for organizations looking for both short-term and long-term supported solutions. Still not sure which operating system you want to use on the Vultr cloud? Read more about how they compare.
Do you need a different operating system that you don't see in our official image list? Vultr can run virtually any environment by leveraging our Upload ISO feature. With this feature, customers can bring their own operating system images and are able to create virtually unlimited OS combinations in any of our 16 worldwide locations.
#3. Collaborate with Vultr on GitHub
The Vultr team has always focused on delivering the high performance cloud developers rely on every day. Over the years, we’ve heard requests from our community to simplify the integration process by providing official support for popular third party tools including Terraform and other cloud native tools.
Starting today, we are introducing our Vultr GitHub portal and announcing several Vultr-maintained open source projects. We listened to the feedback and came up with an initial offering that we are thrilled to share with you!
An officially supported GO Client which allow you to communicate with our APIs from within your GO applications.
Terraform lets you build, change, and version your infrastructure without headaches. As you make changes to your configuration, Terraform can determine what has changed and build the new desired state accordingly. Leverage Terraform and manage your entire Vultr infrastructure as an immutable codebase.
Spend a lot of time in the terminal? Fear not, with Vultr-cli all of your Vultr resources are a few keystrokes away.
WHMCS makes automation and billing simple for hosting providers and the Vultr module simplifies integration with our platform.
By working together with the open source community, we aim to increase the diversity and robustness of third party tooling and allow for more creativity to flourish on Vultr! We have a lot more exciting things lined up so stay tuned as we will be releasing more tooling and products in the coming months.
#4. High Frequency Compute Global Expansion Continues
Since launching High Frequency Compute in June 2019, customers have been giving us rave reviews about the incredible performance of these new offerings. Powered by 3GHz+ CPUs and local NVMe storage, High Frequency Compute delivers class leading performance and accelerates the performance of even the most demanding applications.
And besides the great performance, the most frequent feedback we heard from our customers was "When is my location getting High Frequency Compute"? Our goal from the start has been to make this high performance compute lineup available in all of our 16 data centers.
#5. Introducing Vultr Object Storage
The storage team here at Vultr has been busy building out a new addition to our expansive worldwide cloud infrastructure. Introducing Object Storage!
Vultr Object Storage is a highly scalable solution for storing large quantities of files, eliminating the need to manage your own custom infrastructure. Our architecture was designed from the ground up to provide high redundancy and data durability, and backed by blazing fast NVMe caching to make sure you have the best storage performance. In addition, Object Storage is S3 compatible, allowing you to integrate with existing tools and SDKs.
We are extremely excited to share that Object Storage is available to all of our customers starting today. You only pay for the amount of data stored or transferred out of the bucket. With an initial release in our NY/NJ region, we will be rolling this feature out to more Vultr regions in the near future.
Ready to get started? Visit the Object Storage page to learn more. You can also read our Object Storage documentation which explains in detail how object storage works and includes usage examples with some popular tools.
